Acer Predator Helios 500 Gaming Laptop, Nitro 50 Series and Predator Orion 5000 Gaming Desktops Launched

Acer on Wednesday unveiled a new range of products at its next@acer global press conference. At the event held in New York, the company announced new notebooks, Chromebooks, gaming laptops, and other accessories for gamers, creators, families, students, and professionals. While there were several launches aimed at gamers, the company also introduced the Chromebook Spin 15, Chromebook 15, Chromebook Spin 13, and Swift 5 notebook. Notably, most of the devices will go on sale next month.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 15 is claimed to be the industry’s first convertible Chromebook with a 15.6-inch 1080p display. It comes with a convertible 360-degree design. The 1920×1080 pixels resolution delivers sharp visuals while IPS technology provides wide viewing angles for sharing streaming video, Acer claims. The display also supports 10-finger touch for responsive browsing and running apps. The display comes with an additional display area for apps and tabs, as well as, a full-sized keyboard. Notably, the Chromebook Spin 15 weighs 2.1kg and is equipped with two upward-facing speakers.

The new Acer Chromebook Spin 15 is promised to deliver a battery life of up to 13 hours. It is powered by the quad-core Intel Pentium N4200 processor, Intel Celeron N3450 processor, or the dual-core Intel Celeron N3350 processor. It comes with 4GB or 8GB RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of inbuilt eMMC storage. Connectivity options include 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 4.2. Also, there is a 720p HD webcam with HDR and a wide field of view.

The Chromebooks run on Google’s Chrome OS platform, which provides automatic updates and multiple levels of security. The Acer Chromebook Spin 15 comes with two USB 3.1 Type-C generation 1 ports. In addition, the Acer Chromebook Spin 15 includes two USB 3.0 ports and a MicroSD card reader.
Acer has also introduced a new model in its Chromebook 15 lineup. The budget-friendly device comes with the same 15.6-inch display and a 14-hour battery life. The new Chromebook 15 has a full-HD display in both touch (CB315-1HT) and non-touch (CB315-1H) variants. The Chromebook 15 is powered by the quad-core Intel Pentium N4200 processor, the dual-core Intel Celeron N3350 processor, or quad-core Intel Celeron N3450 processor and comes with two full-sized upward-facing speakers that support high-definition audio. It comes with Intel Wireless-AC 7265 WiFi 802.11ac 2×2 MIMO, two USB 3.1 Type-C ports and two USB 3.0 ports. It will be available with up to 8MB dual-channel LPDDR4 memory and 64GB of inbuilt eMMC storage.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 15 (CP315-1H) will be available in the US in July starting at $449 (roughly Rs. 30,700); and in EMEA in June starting at EUR 449 (roughly Rs. 36,000). The Acer Chromebook 15 (CB315-1H/1HT) will be available in the US in July starting at $349 (roughly Rs. 23,900) ; and in EMEA in June starting at EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 32,000).

Acer has also introduced two new premium Chromebooks – the Acer Chromebook Spin 13 and the Acer Chromebook 13 – meant for business use. Both the models feature and all-aluminum design and a full-HD+ 13.5-inch display in a 3:2 aspect ratio. They are powered by 8th Gen Intel Core processors. The convertible Chromebook Spin 13 (CP713-1WN) has 360-degree hinges that let consumers use it as a tablet, notebook, display, or in tent-mode. It comes with a Wacom stylus. Meanwhile, the Acer Chromebook 13 (CB713-1W) opts for the traditional notebook design.

 

The new Acer Chromebooks have USB 3.1 Type-C ports on each side for charging them. Both the new Chromebooks also have a USB 3.0 port and a microSD card reader. The Chromebook Spin 13 and Chromebook 13 feature Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2×2 MIMO and Bluetooth 4.2.

The Chromebook Spin 13 is powered by an 8th gen Intel Core i5-8250U processor or Core i3-8130U processor. It offers up to 16GB LPDDR3 memory and up to 128GB of inbuilt eMMC storage. It promises a battery life of up to 10 hours. The Acer Chromebook 13 processor options include an 8th gen Intel Core i3-8130U, Intel Pentium 4415U or Intel Celeron 3865U. It comes with up to 16GB LPDDR3 memory and either 32GB or 64GB of inbuilt eMMC storage.

Notably, the exact specifications, prices, and availability details have not been shared by Acer yet.

Lastly, Acer also announced its new Swift 5 notebook that promises to provide more portability and performance. It sports a 15-inch display and its chassis weighs less than 1kg. The Swift 5 is powered by the latest Intel Core processors and ships with Windows 10.

At the event held in New York, the company launched several new notebooks, chromebooks, gaming laptops, and other accessories for gamers, creators, families, students, and professionals. The latest gaming products from Acer include Predator Helios 500, Predator Helios 300 Special Edition, Nitro series, as well as, the Predator Orion 5000 and Predator Orion 3000 series. Notably, most of the devices will go on sale starting June 2018.

The Predator Helios 500 features up to 8th-generation Intel Core i9+ processors while the Predator Helios 300 Special Edition includes upgraded specifications from its predecessor along with a distinctive white chassis. Acer says that both the gaming notebooks feature VR-Ready performance, advanced thermal technologies, and faster connectivity.

As mentioned, the Predator Helios 500 features up to 8th-generation Intel Core i9+ processors and GeForce GTX 1070 graphics. It comes with Intel Optane memory, NVMePCIe SSDs, Killer DoubleShot Pro, and up to 64GB of RAM. Acer says that the notebook is ideal for gaming with graphic-intensive AAA titles and live streaming. It features 4K Ultra-HD or full-HD IPS 17.3-inch displays with 144Hz refresh rates. Also Nvidia G-Sync technology is supported on both the inbuilt display and external monitors. It has dual Thunderbolt 3 ports and HDMI 2.0 ports support up to three external monitors. Additionally, there are two speakers, a subwoofer, and it supports Acer TrueHarmony and Waves MAXXAudio technology.

The Helios 500 is equipped with two of Acer’s proprietary AeroBlade 3D metal fans, and five heat pipes that distribute cool air to the machine’s key components while simultaneously releasing hot air. Users can control the fan speed using the PredatorSense app. The app can also be used to control and monitor the notebook’s vitals from one central interface, including overclocking, lighting, hotkeys, temperature, and fan control. Meanwhile, there is a backlit RGB keyboard that offers four lighting zones with support for up to 16.8 million colours. Also, the laptop features anti-ghosting technology that provides control for executing complex commands and combos.
Coming to the Helios 300, the Acer’s budget-friendly gaming line has not got a Special Edition model featuring an all-white aluminum chassis with gold trim. The Helios 300 Special Edition (PH315-51) sports a 15.6-inch full-HD IPS display with an upgraded 144Hz refresh rate. It is powered by up to an 8th-generation Intel Core i7+ processor, coupled with GeForce GTX 1060 graphics, up to a 512GB PCIe Gen 3 NVMe solid state drive, and up to a 2TB hard disk drive. It also comes equipped with up to 16GB of RAM, and is upgradable to 32GB.

The Helios 300 SE comes with Intel Optane memory, Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Wi-Fi by the Intel Wireless-AC 9560 that delivers up to 1.73Gbps throughput when using 160MHz channels (2×2 802.11ac, dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz). The laptop also includes two of Acer’s 0.1 mm all-metal AeroBlade 3D fans. They can be controlled with Acer’s PredatorSense app, which offers three usage modes – Coolboost, Normal, and Silent.

Notably, the Predator Helios 500 gaming notebooks will be available in the US in June starting at $1,999 (roughly Rs. 1,36,700); in EMEA in May starting at EUR 1,999 (roughly Rs. 1,60,200); and in China in June starting at CNY 15,999 (roughly Rs. 1,71,300).

Acer has also introduced Nitro 50 Series gaming desktops, as well as the Nitro VG0 and RG0 gaming monitors. The Nitro 50 Series desktops are powered by up to 8th-genetation Intel Core i7 processors, and equipped with up to GeForce GTX 1070 graphics cards. They can deliver videos with 4K resolution and can support up to four displays simultaneously. They have up to a 3TB HDD and a 512GB SSD. They sport a handy wireless charging deck for Qi-enabled charging. The Nitro 50 Series also features armour-inspired housing with front-facing LED lighting. The Nitro 50 Series is equipped with Realtek Dragon LAN that optimises network speed for gaming, browsing, and streaming.

Meanwhile, the Acer Nitro VG0 Series comes with 27-, 23.8- and 21.5-inch display panels with resolutions of 4K ultra-HD, WQHD, or full-HD. The Acer Nitro RG0 Series, on the other hand, sports a .27-inch thin profile and is offered in 27- and 23.8-inch models.

With AMD Radeon FreeSync, the Acer Nitro monitor’s frames can sync with the graphics card’s frames. Also, the Integrated Visual Response Boost (VRB) decreases blur in fast-moving images to achieve the effect of a 1ms MPRT, along with up to 144 Hz refresh rates. And, the Integrated 6-axis color adjustment lets gamers fine-tune colour, hue, and saturation levels, while built-in black boost enables gamers to select from 11 black level options to optimise visual advantage.

Acer says that the new Nitro RG0 series with 1920×1080 at 75Hz resolution is “perfect for 1080p full-HD gaming, multimedia, and productivity applications, including Blu-ray Disc console gaming and widescreen cinematic playback.” Also, the IPS panels provide views at wide angles of up to 178 degrees horizontally and vertically. The monitors can tilt from -5 to 20 degrees (-5 to 15 degrees for RG0 series). They meet 72 percent of the NTSC standard and delivers a 250 cd/m2 brightness. They are equipped with two 2W stereo speakers, HDMI, VGA, and DisplayPort ports.

The display modes on the Nitro VG0 and RG0 series include Action, Racing, Sport, User, Standard, ECO, Graphic, and Movie. They also come with a VESA mount that can be used to be hung in the wall.

The Acer Nitro 50 Series gaming desktops will be available in the US in July starting at $799 (roughly Rs. 54,700); in EMEA in May starting at EUR 999 (roughly Rs. 80,000) ; and in China in July starting at CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs. 64,200). The Acer Nitro VG0 gaming monitors will be available in the US in June starting at $129.99 (roughly Rs. 8,900); in EMEA in May starting at EUR 129 (roughly Rs. 10,300); and in China in May starting at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,700). The Acer Nitro RG0 gaming monitors will be available in the US in July starting at $169.99 (roughly Rs. 11,600); and in EMEA in May starting at EUR 139 (roughly Rs. 11,100).

Coming to the Acer Predator Orion 5000, the gaming desktops feature up to 8th Gen Intel Core i7+ 8700K processors paired with the latest Intel Z370 SoC, up to 32GB of Intel Optane memory, and up to 2-way Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPUs. They have an IceTunnel 2.0 airflow management design that segments the system into different thermal zones and provides each sector with its own airflow tunnel to expel heat. They also sport a front mesh panel with dust filters. Additional features for gamers include Killer LAN high-speed Ethernet, cradles for audio headsets, and a carry-handle for portability.

The Predator Orion 3000 series features up to 8th-generation Intel Core i7+ processors, and up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards. The gaming desktops are the VR-ready and support 4K gameplay. Meanwhile, other specifications and features of the Orion 3000 desktops are similar to the Orion 5000 series.

Alongside the new Predator Orion 5000 and Predator Orion 3000 series gaming desktops, Acer has also expanded its gaming gadget and accessory line Predator Cestus 510 gaming mouse, Predator Gaming Chair, Predator Hard Case, Predator Aethos 500 mechanical keyboard, and a Predator Mousepad.

The Predator Orion 5000 gaming desktops will be available in the US in July starting at $1,499 (roughly Rs. 1,02,500); in EMEA in June starting at EUR 1,699 (roughly Rs. 1,36,000); and in China in June starting at CNY 15,999 (roughly Rs. 1,71,300). The Predator Orion 3000 gaming desktops will be available in the US in October starting at $999 (roughly Rs. 68,300); in EMEA in July starting at EUR 1,299 (roughly Rs. 1,04,000); and in China in July starting at CNY 6,999 (roughly Rs. 74,900).

The Swift 5’s display features thin bezels measuring just 5.87mm, giving it an 87.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. The Swift 5 features Acer Color Intelligence technology, which dynamically adjusts gamma and saturation in real-time, optimising screen colour, and brightness. Also, Acer’s BluelightShield technology allows adjusting of the screen’s blue-light emission over extended periods of use.

Powered by the latest Intel processors, the Acer Swift 5 promises a good battery life. The Swift 5 features Intel Wireless-AC 9560 which offers Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity. It comes with up to 1TB of SSD storage and up to 16GB of DDR4 memory. It has USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 port, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports (one with power-off charging functionality), an HDMI port, and an SD card reader. The Swift 5 also supports Windows Hello through a fingerprint reader. The exact specifications, prices, and availability details of the Acer Swift 5 have not been shared by the company as of now.
